To run 45k, we will commit to running 5k a week in the coldest months of the year, before we set off on the adventure.

You can run 1-2k a few times a week to make your target.
Many people will want to get involved with Park Run, a national network of 5k runs on a saturday morning (http://www.parkrun.org.uk)
